Chester Electric commissioners discuss Energy New England contract, administration fees

Chester Electric Light commissioners met with Energy New England to address concerns about a Shell power contract that doubled in price during the Ukraine war. Commissioners Lori Fieldstad and Deryck Savoy and Manager Diane Hall discussed contract administration fees ($.40 per kilowatt-hour) and noted that Energy New England lacked an in-house grant writer when the Massachusetts Clean Energy Challenge grant became available, requiring the department to engage Municipal Marketplace Entities instead. With the Energy New England contract expiring December 31, 2025, the commissioners said they would review all options before deciding on renewal.
