Chester Finance Committee approves targeted cuts to narrow $38,000 budget shortfall. Chair Florence Bolduc oversaw reductions including Fire Chief salary set at $14,875 under a motion by member Bob Daley to honor prior-year compensation commitments, a $4,081 Assessor principal reduction through delayed hiring, removal of automated external defibrillators from the Fire Department budget, and a $2,000 cut to the Finance Committee reserve fund bringing it to $15,000. Council on Aging received level funding with a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment for its director.
The committee deferred final Board of Health salary decisions and Town Hall expense cuts pending further information.
