Wild & Scenic Westfield River Committee approves FY27 budget, grants.

misc · Meeting of April 22, 2026

CHESTER — Wild & Scenic Westfield River Committee approves $228,000 FY27 budget with federal increase. The budget includes a $10,000 boost in base federal funding and an anticipated $8,000 partnership grant for an interactive watershed map showing designated sections, access points, conservation parcels, and restoration sites across the nine-town watershed. The committee voted 6 to 4 to award $7,300 in grant funding to the Windsor Garden Team for pavilion construction at a marshland education site near Route 9, declining the full $11,200 request to limit support to native plantings, helical piles, and signage.

The committee also unanimously approved $3,000 for barberry-removal brochures targeting northern watershed towns in the second year of an invasive species eradication initiative.
